|Donald Gensler Bio 2008
Gensler is a painter and installation artist involved in large-scale public art projects and co-founder of Gensler + Gutierrez. Since Fall 2002 he has been a Lecturer in public art and mural painting at the University of Pennsylvania School of Design. In 2006 he was Adjunct Professor of public art at RPI School of Architecture in Troy, NY. He received his BS from Skidmore College and MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and studied art history at the University of Vienna, Austria. In 2006 he was an Artist in Residence with Project Row Houses, Houston, TX. 1995-2000 he participated as an Artist in Residence through the NEA Arts in Education Program (coordinator: Arkansas Arts Council). In 2001 he was awarded a Vermont Studio Center Full Fellowship. 1997- 99 he received the Arkansas Arts Council Assistance Fund Grant. Gensler has completed over 35 public art projects nationally including his recent 12000 sq. ft. mural at Hahnemann University Hospital working with disability communities in Philadelphia, PA. The project is sponsored by Philadelphia DHS and the Independence Foundation. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally with organizations such as Postmasters, NY, Exit Art, NY and the Korean National University of the Arts, Seoul, Korea.
